BASIC PRINCIPLES OF HAIDONG GUMDO

What does Haidong Gumdo mean?

Haidong Gumdo means "Sword fighting art of the eastern sea" or "The light of the sword like the rising sunrays in the eastern sea", due to the reflections of the sunrays on a sword blade in the morning sunrise. As the Korean peninsula was also called "Land in the Eastern Sea" in China at that time, Haidong Gumdo can also be simply translated as "Korean way of the sword".
